Customers Keep Coming Back for More

As co-owner Jimmy Gray described in this month’s MoldMaking Technology, the last three years have been “quite busy” for his New York-based shop, Moldcraft. Backed by 40 years in business, 13 certified moldmakers and engineers, and 12,000 square feet of space, Moldcraft’s consistent quality, competitive pricing, and on-time delivery has its customers wanting more and Gray in search of efficient capacity.

The article details how last spring, while exploring options to improve equipment, Gray and his colleagues reached out to their local Mitsubishi distributor. After a consultation, Gray and his team decided to invest in an MV1200-S wire EDM.

The machine far exceeded expectations: a power supply finishing circuit reduced wire consumption; the power-saving cylindrical drive technology reduced energy consumption; cutting speeds increased 30% more than initially estimated; all told, operation costs were reduced by 42 percent compared to the previous setup.

With those successes in mind, the folks at Moldcraft knew exactly who to call when they decided to enhance their sinker EDM capabilities shortly thereafter. Once again, the new equipment did not disappoint, this time an EA12D machine.

The 80-amp, FP60 fine-pulse power supply helped to drastically speed up sinker operations. Paired with Mitsubishi’s Fuzzy Pro Plus burn logic, the machine can dynamically adjust the power to stay on schedule and stay out of trouble on a deep rib or long-aspect-ration burns. Similar smart features like the E.S.P.E.R. II onboard programming has allowed for prioritization of speed, surface finish, or wear on the EA12D. The system has made it easy for operators of any experience level to turn out just the right burn.

Mitsubishi machinery has played such a critical role in Moldcraft’s improvement over the last few months that the team there believes it has found an important partner for its future growth. The article cites Gray, saying, “Given the performance of both machines, Moldcraft will likely turn to Mitsubishi again as it continues to phase out old equipment for new.”
