Two Wire EDMs Are Company’s Key To Growth

As Product Evaluation Systems, Inc. (PES) in Latrobe, Pa. expands, its two MC Machinery wire EDMs are key to the material testing company’s continued growth.
Located about 40 miles outside Pittsburgh, PES is an independent testing laboratory specializing in the mechanical, chemical, and metallurgical analysis of materials. Industries in which they serve include aerospace and defense, mining, power generation, oil and gas, industrial construction, and additive manufacturing.
Their wire EDM machines are part of the company’s rapidly expanding machine shop, giving PES the flexibility to handle unique and exotic materials submitted for testing and/or failure analysis. But most importantly, they are critical components for making precise crack-starter notches and side-grooves on the variety of fracture toughness samples that PES processes.
Its two MC Machinery wire EDMs are older models but used every day, according to PES’s Vice President and General Manager Mike Geissler. The two machines were moved into the company’s new 12,500-square-foot machine shop and mechanical testing area in June of 2020, with MC Machinery technicians on hand for maintenance and setup.
“These machines are an important part of our quick turnaround approach to materials testing,” Geissler said. “MC Machinery has been very supportive of our needs and the demanding schedule by which we do business.”
